During the first quarter of 2026, Arbor Post Acute ranked as the second largest nursing home facility in Butte County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

CMS rated Arbor Post Acute at 1 out of 5 overall, notably below California’s average nursing home score of 3.2.

Throughout the quarter, Autumn Creek Post Acute led the county with 184 available beds, while Oroville Hospital Post-Acute Center had 126 beds, securing third place by capacity.

Altogether, eight nursing homes operating for profit were located in Butte County, California.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show a growing older adult population in the nation, while the number of children is on the decline. Americans 65 and older grew by 13% from 2020 to 2024, contrasted with a 1.7% decrease in residents under 18. The country’s older population has expanded significantly during the past century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

Findings from a 2021 study estimate that about 28 million in this age group—almost half—may need long-term services and support. Over one-third could require nursing home care in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” Jesse Slome said, who is executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
