SACRAMENTO – Following the passage of legislative Democrats’ 2024-25 budget, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) issued a statement criticizing the spending plan for its perceived fiscal irresponsibility.

“After years of surplus and ample opportunity to do the right thing, Democrats have squandered taxpayer money and recklessly spent themselves into a deficit,” Gallagher stated. “This budget embraces Newsom’s gimmicks to punt our biggest problems one more year into the future. This budget does nothing to make Californians safer or lower families’ costs.”

Gallagher further criticized the budget for relying on tax increases and failing to adequately fund key areas such as infrastructure, water storage projects, education, and public safety. He also noted that it neglects some of California’s most vulnerable populations.

“Democrats should be embarrassed,” he concluded.
