The Assembly Republican Caucus has elected Assemblymember Heath Flora (R–Ripon) as its new leader through a unanimous vote. The announcement was made by Assemblymember James Gallagher (R–East Nicolaus), who has been leading the caucus since 2022. Gallagher will continue in his role until the end of the legislative session, officially stepping down on September 16.
“Stepping aside was my decision, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished,” said Gallagher. He highlighted the achievements under his leadership, including increasing their seats against predictions and addressing significant issues such as fentanyl, human trafficking, and Proposition 36. “We’ve grown the Caucus, sharpened our message, and we’re not done yet.”
Gallagher expressed confidence in Flora’s capabilities: “I’m excited the Caucus has chosen Heath Flora. He’s been my right hand, and I know he’ll take this team to the next level.”
Flora expressed gratitude for his colleagues’ support: “I’m honored by the unanimous vote of my colleagues. Californians deserve a Republican Caucus that fights hard, communicates clearly, and never backs down. I’m ready to lead that fight.”
During Gallagher’s tenure, Assembly Republicans expanded their numbers and engaged in debates on crime, affordability, and government accountability. Both leaders emphasized unity with a focus on bringing solutions to Sacramento and regaining trust from Californians.
