Autumn Creek Post Acute ranked as the largest nursing home in Butte County in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

Records indicate 184 beds were available at the facility, which is 83 more than the county average in the first quarter. It served an average of 154.2 residents during this time.

The CMS gave Autumn Creek Post Acute an overall rating of 1 out of 5, below California’s nursing home average of 3.2.

Arbor Post Acute followed as the second largest, offering 144 beds, and Oroville Hospital Post-Acute Center was third with 126 beds as of the first quarter.

Autumn Creek Post Acute had incurred $63,856 in a single fine and faced three penalties by the end of the quarter.

Eight for-profit nursing homes operated in Butte County, California, during this period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show growth in the nation’s older adult population while younger demographics decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans aged 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the last 100 years, the older adult population expanded significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 report estimates that nearly half of this age bracket—about 28 million people—might need long-term services and supports. More than 1 in 3 are projected to eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director for the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
