SACRAMENTO – Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher issued a statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s call for a special session of the Legislature. The session aims to consider a proposal that mandates refiners withhold fuel from the market.

“From increasing the gas tax to a new regulation increasing prices 50 cents a gallon, Newsom has been all in on higher gas prices – so why would anybody expect him to stop now? His own energy regulators warned that this scheme could drive up prices and cause shortages, but that’s not stopping him,” Gallagher stated.

Gallagher proposed three bills for consideration during the special session: “Exempt gas from your cap & trade law and watch prices fall overnight. Streamline approval of new pipelines and refinery storage to avoid price spikes. Repeal your ‘price gouging’ law that hasn’t done a damn thing to bring down prices.”

The special session follows ongoing debates about fuel pricing regulations in California.
