Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher of East Nicolaus has voiced support for former President Donald Trump’s stance on women’s athletics in California. Gallagher criticized the state’s handling of the issue, stating that California is failing to protect fairness in girls’ sports.
“President Trump said what millions of parents are thinking. California is letting biological boys steal girls’ titles, and Gavin Newsom is too weak to stop it. If Newsom won’t protect fairness in women’s sports, Republicans will,” Gallagher stated.
Earlier this year, Assembly Republicans proposed two bills aimed at maintaining competitive integrity and safety in girls’ sports. However, both bills were rejected by Democrats despite Governor Gavin Newsom’s acknowledgment of the situation as “deeply unfair.”
National surveys indicate that nearly 70% of Americans believe biological males should not compete in girls’ events.
“This is an issue of fairness,” Gallagher continued. “We’re not going to stand on the sidelines as female athletes continue to lose opportunities they deserve.”
