SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that a state task force helped seize “an estimated nearly 7 million pills containing fentanyl.” The announcement comes amid reports that Newsom is allegedly attempting to undermine an initiative aimed at cracking down on theft and fentanyl crimes with his own ballot measure, which reportedly omits additional penalties for drug-related offenses.

Politico reported this week that the governor’s actions may be seen as an effort to mislead Californians about his commitment to addressing crime. Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher commented on the situation, stating, “Newsom is desperate to silence voters and mislead Californians into thinking he’s serious about stopping crime. He isn’t.”
