SACRAMENTO – This month, Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democratic politicians attempted to stop the Taxpayer Protection Act in the California Supreme Court. In an opinion piece in the Sacramento Bee, Assembly Republican Leader criticized Newsom’s attempt to remove a qualified voter initiative from the ballot.

“The governor and legislative leaders — using taxpayer dollars no less — are suing to disenfranchise millions of California voters by kicking the Taxpayer Protection Act off the ballot. Why? Because this measure lets voters, not politicians, have the final say on how they’re taxed,” stated the Assembly Republican Leader.

With some of the highest taxes in the nation, proponents argue that it is time for voters to have more influence over tax decisions. Critics contend that Democratic politicians should not interfere with this process.
