James Gallagher, Assembly Republican Leader in California, used his Twitter account to criticize recent decisions by state Democratic leaders regarding redistricting and committee assignments. Gallagher’s tweets focus on alleged political maneuvering by Democrats, including Governor Gavin Newsom and the Speaker of the Assembly.
On August 22, 2025, Gallagher posted: “On behalf of the @AsmRepublicans and the People of the State of California I want to thank the Speaker for “punishing” @AliMacedo4CA and @AsmTangipa by putting them on Elections Committee. That one action did more to expose the corruption of the #Gavinmander than anything else.”
The following day, he continued his criticism with another post dated August 22, 2025: “With their actions yesterday @GavinNewsom and Democratic politicians have moved from “we will only redistrict if Texas does it” to a full commitment to “gerrymander no matter what”. No conditions, just a raw power grab.”
On August 24, 2025, Gallagher shared a Bible verse from 2 Corinthians: ““For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,”
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 ESV

Gallagher’s posts come amid ongoing debates about redistricting in California. In recent years, accusations of gerrymandering have been a contentious issue nationally as well as within California. Critics often argue that redrawing district boundaries can be used by parties in power to entrench their position and diminish electoral competition.
As leader of California’s Assembly Republicans, Gallagher has frequently voiced concerns about transparency and fairness in legislative processes.
