California State Rep. James Gallagher, who serves as the Assembly Republican Leader and represents areas including Butte, Glenn, Placer, Sutter, Tehama, and Yuba counties, has used his social media platform to criticize state leadership and legislative priorities in a series of posts made on May 29 and May 30.
The following day, Gallagher continued his critique by drawing parallels between Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom: “So good. Can easily exchange Bass/LA for Gavin Newsom/CA here. Parody: funny because it’s TRUE!” This comment referenced a parody video highlighting perceived issues with governance.
Later on May 30, Gallagher addressed legislative priorities regarding wildfire funding and high-speed rail projects: “When you vote, remember these were also Mike McGuire’s priorities. At Gavin’s direction, He AUTHORED and passed the bill, SB 840, that put wildfire funding LAST and the corrupt High Speed Rail project FIRST. You are not his priority. Lets #UniteTheNorth”
Gallagher’s statements come as part of his ongoing efforts to represent constituents across multiple northern California counties as detailed on his official website. As Assembly Republican Leader since taking office in the California Assembly—where he provides constituent services such as assistance with state agencies—Gallagher has offered resources for public transportation and community support while sharing district information relevant to those he serves.
His recent comments reflect persistent criticism from some lawmakers regarding budget allocations for wildfire prevention versus infrastructure projects like high-speed rail—a debate that continues within state government.
