California State Rep. James Gallagher, who serves as Assembly Republican Leader and represents several rural counties, recently posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing housing policy, the cost of living crisis, and infrastructure priorities.
On May 13, 2026, Gallagher wrote: ” Housing for the people, not hedge funds”. Later that day, he followed up with another post referencing a recent debate: ” I brought this up in my debate the other night as well. Gavin and Mike own this cost of living crisis.”
In a third post on May 13, Gallagher highlighted the needs of rural communities regarding state spending priorities: “Gallagher: ‘If you ask these rural communities, ‘What would you prefer? Would you want safe drinking water coming out of your faucet, or do you want a high-speed rail in your community?’” he said. “I’m pretty sure I know the answer.”
Gallagher’s comments reflect ongoing debates within California about affordable housing access and infrastructure investment. As noted on his official website, Gallagher has provided resources for public transportation and community support while representing areas including Butte, Glenn, Placer, Sutter, Tehama, and Yuba counties. He also offers constituent services such as assistance with state agencies and sharing district maps to clarify which communities are served by his office.
Serving as Assembly Republican Leader since his election to the legislature, Gallagher continues to advocate for policies that address both urban and rural concerns in California’s legislative agenda.
