James Gallagher, a member of the California State Assembly, has recently taken to social media to express his concerns regarding the state of Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program. His series of tweets criticize the current administration and call for immediate action.
On July 3, 2025, Gallagher stated that “Medi-Cal is failing everyday Californians.” He announced that Assembly Republicans would be advocating for an audit of the program. He further criticized Governor Gavin Newsom and the Democratic Party, stating they are responsible for this failure.
Continuing his critique on July 4, 2025, Gallagher accused Democrats of bankrupting Medi-Cal and neglecting vulnerable populations. He noted their refusal to conduct an audit to rectify issues within the program as “pathetic,” instead attributing blame to former President Trump. This statement was made in a tweet where he expressed frustration with “the mess they have made of healthcare.”
In another tweet on July 4, 2025, Gallagher directly addressed Governor Newsom by accusing him of causing financial ruin to Medi-Cal. He highlighted the impact on healthcare facilities and services: “Hospitals are closing, clinics shutting down, and women can’t get maternal care.” Gallagher concluded with a demand for Governor Newsom’s resignation.
Gallagher’s comments come amid ongoing debates over healthcare management in California under Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration.
