California State Rep. James Gallagher, who serves as Assembly Republican Leader and represents the Third Assembly District, shared a series of reflections on social media regarding the recent memorial for Congressman Doug LaMalfa and addressed criticism directed at ICE agents.
On January 24, 2026, Gallagher posted, “Today we remember our Congressman, our leader, our friend.”
The following day, Gallagher offered more detailed reflections on the memorial for Rep. Doug LaMalfa. In a tweet dated January 25, 2026, he wrote: “My reflections on the @RepLaMalfa Memorial today:
We were all blessed by “our Doug” and his brand of leadership. He loved us all well.
Christ worked through him in ways no one could have ever imagined. His memorial was attended by leaders on both sides of the aisle. Two”
In a separate statement made on January 26, 2026, Gallagher commented on criticism facing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents: “Our ICE agents are doing the job they are sworn and charged to do under extremely difficult circumstances.
Irresponsible Democrat politicians are charging people up with false narratives that these LEOs are Nazi secret police that must be stopped. This is false and dangerous.”
Gallagher’s remarks come in his capacity as California State Representative for Butte, Glenn, Placer, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba counties—a role in which he maintains offices in Chico and Sacramento while offering constituent services such as assistance with state agencies and community resources (official website). As Assembly Republican Leader, he also releases statements on legislative matters affecting his district (official website).
The memorial referenced by Gallagher honored Congressman Doug LaMalfa, whose service drew bipartisan attendance at his remembrance event.
Gallagher’s recent comments reflect ongoing debates within California’s political landscape concerning immigration enforcement and bipartisan cooperation at commemorative events.
