Today, Legislative Republicans expressed approval for the decision to consider wildfire relief and prevention legislation in a special session of the California Legislature. They reiterated their call for prompt action to address the ongoing wildfire and insurance challenges in the state. The allocation of state resources to these issues is seen as crucial for preventing future fires and stabilizing California’s insurance market.

The announcement followed a letter and press conference by legislative Republicans urging Governor Newsom to enhance fire prevention efforts, improve emergency response capabilities, and restore confidence in the insurance industry.

Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher from Yuba City commented, “I’m glad to see Governor Newsom agreeing that the state needs to prioritize relief for Californians impacted by these fires.” He emphasized the importance of focusing on aid rather than political agendas.

Assemblymember David Tangipa from Clovis shared his personal experience with wildfires, stating, “We hear you. Some of us understand exactly what you’re going through.” He recounted his family’s loss during the Carr Fire in 2018 and stressed the need for action.

Republican lawmakers are committed to working during the special session to ensure their priorities are addressed and transformed into effective solutions.
