Butte County, CA -- Butte County is collaborating with five incorporated communities, the Enterprise Rancheria, and various special districts to update the 2019 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). The plan addresses hazards such as floods, droughts, wildfires, and severe weather. While these natural hazards cannot be prevented, an LHMP provides a long-term strategy to mitigate disaster risks. Communities with a FEMA-approved LHMP are eligible for pre- and post-disaster mitigation grant funding.
The process commenced in October 2023 with the formation of a Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee (HMPC) consisting of representatives from County, City, Tribal, and District departments along with other key agency and public stakeholders. The updated LHMP is expected to be finalized and submitted to Cal OES and FEMA by September 2024.
The Public Review Draft of the LHMP is available online at www.buttecounty.net/2024-LHMP-Development. Printed copies can be found at Butte County Administration, 25 County Center Drive, Suite 213, Oroville, CA 95965.
