Earlier today in Sacramento, Assembly Republicans joined forces with law enforcement leaders and victims' rights advocates to address pressing public safety issues in California. The coalition emphasized the need for decisive action to tackle challenges such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and road safety.

The Assembly Republicans pledged support for fully funding drug treatment programs under Proposition 36. They also highlighted their commitment to supporting crime victims and their families, combating addiction and drug trafficking, curbing sexual and domestic violence, and enhancing road safety. The group voiced opposition to certain proposals by legislative Democrats that they believe could undermine Californians' right to self-defense and potentially overturn life sentences for convicted murderers.

Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher stated, "The people of California have spoken loud and clear – they want safe communities and they want leaders who will stand up for law and order." He criticized Democratic policies as being "soft-on-crime," suggesting these have endangered families while emboldening criminals. Gallagher affirmed the Republicans' resolve to take action in restoring public safety.

Assemblyman Tom Lackey, a member of the Public Safety Committee, commented on the perceived failures of the supermajority in addressing public safety concerns: “Time and again, the supermajority has stalled, ignored or outright rejected common-sense reforms.” He stressed that public safety should transcend partisan divides as a fundamental responsibility.
