CITY OF CHICO: Chico City Council Takes Action to Enhance Enforcement of Rules and Regulations in City Park Areas

City

City of Chico issued the following announcement.

At the December 1, 2020 regular meeting held on December 8, 2020, the City of Chico City Council adopted an Emergency Ordinance allowing for the enforcement of rules and

regulations within Bidwell Park and other park areas/playgrounds, as either misdemeanors or infractions. This allows for heightened enforcement of illegal behaviors within these

public spaces, thereby amplifying the level of accountability and public expectation of safety, cleanliness, and environmental stewardship within these areas. The City Council

adopted the Emergency Ordinance, which necessitated a full reading at the meeting, by a vote of 5-2, allowing for the Ordinance to be implemented the following day (December 9,

2020). The ordinance is consistent with all Federal and State laws as it was adopted and as it will be applied. The enforcement of these rules and regulations will be carried out by

Park Rangers, Code Enforcement Officers, the Chico Police Department, and any other City employee with enforcement powers. Enforceable rules and regulations include

possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages, destruction of public property, unauthorized fires, disposition of garbage outside of established receptacles, overnight camping,

excessive noise, and other offences. A comprehensive list of the enforceable rules and regulations is available at https://chicoca.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?
