On February 28, 2024, Oroville, California, is bracing for an incoming winter storm as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Blizzard Warning for foothill and mountain areas of Butte County from Thursday, February 29, through Sunday, March 3. The NWS is predicting severe weather conditions with snow rates of two to four inches per hour and near zero visibility in some areas, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel due to the hazardous conditions.

Butte County Emergency Management is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents by closely monitoring the situation and collaborating with local authorities and first responders. Briana Haberman, Butte County Deputy Administrative Officer of Emergency Management, emphasized the importance of preparedness and community support, stating, "It is not often that we see Blizzard Warnings in Butte County. It is imperative that residents use the time before the storm to prepare, gather necessary items, and be a good neighbor by checking on those around you. Staying informed is also essential, the National Weather Service is a great resource for weather information and updates."

Residents are advised to gather emergency supplies such as a phone charger, flashlight, radio, warm blankets, and clothing. Additionally, it is crucial to stock up on essentials like food, water, medications, and heating sources in case of power outages or being stranded at home for an extended period.

For further information on emergency preparedness, residents can visit the Ready.gov website. As the winter storm approaches, staying informed, prepared, and looking out for one another are key priorities for the Butte County community in the face of this rare Blizzard Warning.
